Mr P. S. Whitcombe, secretary to tho Turunakii Education Board, has returned to his dirties after a month's leave of absence granted on account of illness. The dcatih, is announced', in a London cable inessuge, of Frederick Uoodall, R.A. The deceased artist first exhibited at the Floyal Academy in 1839. lie was elected an A.R.A. in 1851, and R.A. in lfifil). His works are numerous, among his more notable pictures being "Card Players," "Tho Tired Soldier," "Cranmer at the Traitor's Gate," " The Road to Mecca," "Memphis," " A New Light in tiho Harenn," «nd "Rachel and Her Flock." Like so many more men of talent he died, in spite of his triumphs; in poverty, at the ago of 82 years.
