Mi- Arnold, one of tho Dunedin members, speaking during the financial debate, claimed to I'ully understand tho aims and objects pf tha Labour party in the colony, god on their behalf he put forward tlbe following platform : Pure administration, i Encouragement of local industries, either by Customs taritf or Government bonus. Free education from the primary school to the universities. Legal tender of State notes'. Abolition of the sale of Crown (lands. Periodical revaluation of futiiro lands on lease. Local government reform. Tho referendum, with tho initiative in the hands of the people. Compulsory preference to unionists. Mr Arnold said he would like to know how far the Opposition could go with regard to a platform such as that. He wi.sh.d lo put it on recoid, for though it might not be again referred to in that debate, it would be heard of to a very large extent, throughout tho colony within a very short time. "In New Zealand," said Jlr Arnold, in another part of his speech, "wo have no such thing as socialism. We have a progressive parly, dragging the others at its heel:-:."
