FRIDAY, JULY 22. (Before Messrs I). Berry and E. G. Allsworth, Justices. —lnflicting Bodily Harm.— George Coyle, on remand, was charged with having inflicted actual bodily harm on Constable George Russell. Constable Boattie, who conducted the prosecution for the police, applied for a further remand for eight days, on aceount of l>r. McClelaiid's statement that the injured man was as yet too ill to loave his bed. The accused was remanded accordingly. —Drunkenness and Qbsqene Langguage.— Hobert Horn was charged with having been found drunk in Govorsllreot on July 21st, and with ing using obsccno language in Gilbertstreet. Accused had been twice, convicted of drunkenness during the past six months. Accused pleaded guilty, but urgand the accused was using filthy H. Williamson gave evidence that that the accused was using filthy language between 4 o'clock and 5.30 on Thursday afternoon next door to witness' house. When remonstrated with by witness and his wife he had used! abusive und obscene language. Accused was drunk, and had been currying liquor to an old woman living close by, Charles Warren, said that on the night previous Williamson and ilia wifo had come to his house to escape the language of Horn. Accused was in the street, and his language could be heard inside the house. Accused asked that a prohibition order should bo issued against him to keep him straight. He was fined 10s and costs for, drunkenness, in default 4H hours' imprisonment; for obscene language tho accused 'was committed to gaol for fourteen davs the Bench staling that but for the fact that it was a first offence the penalty would have been more severe.
