fvOKSEWOOD. [ S J? week s ago a horse was found at Mangamaire, the other side l t P . ak ' S "I, a • Vury ex hausted state. Little attention would have been p a ,d to this but for lhe f a J thcliiorse wore no shoes, and £T ( ' Sllkably taken from some back station and ridden hard. A short while after this a mysterious person was seen about Norscwood and his appearance was remarked on I)} Ml- Brieske and others. He disappeared shortly after that, but last week a steer was found sJ)ot near Pat son s mill, which: is situated a lew miles past Norsewood. The hindquarters had been taken off, and a bullet- found in the beast came from Lee-Metford rifle, the same pattern as the one McKenzie is supposed to have committed murder with. Some peop e the other side of Norsewood Uiulena's) were frightened by a visit from a suspicious-looking character who asked for bread. Last week a' camp was found in Pott's bush in a ""'low rata. The skin of a newlykilled sheep had made a very cosy nest for the inmate.
The Dannevirke Press understands another camp was discovered in the native reserve behind Kossewood, and had just been evacuated, the smoke from the fire leading the discoverers to it. Peculiar tracks were found, as if a, man were wearing a boot on foot and a piece of sack on the other. He must have just l>een ahead, because footmarks on the side of a streamlet had not been filled when noticed.
Whilo cutting flax in a swamp it i& rumoured that Peter Beck heard ; somebody neaU him, but on callinglout "Halloa" received no reply. He, too, found thf; peculiar footmark/.
It is understood two policemen: were seen out that way on Sunday. Whether this mysterious personage is McKenzie or not it. is- impossible to say, bu,t he is evidently evadingpeople for, a purpose. It is Uopod ho will soon be captured, and allow. ■XorsewocHi to settle down to its us- | ual peacef ulnese.
