Fire at Wanganui.

(Per Press Association.) AVANGANUI, July 21. A serious fire occurred at 6.30 this evening in a large block of wooden buildings, containing five shops, in Victoria Avenue. The lire started in Bell Esau and Co.'s (drapers), which was gutted, and spread to the upper stories of two adjoining shops, Grove Brothers (grocers) awl Nosworthy (herbnlist), while the shops on either side of these sustained damage !>y water. The insurance on Bell Esau and Co.'s is' understood to be between £ISOO and £2OOO, but details are not available. Grove's and Nosworth.v's stocks were practically ruinod, and the others more or less seriously damaged. The Fire Brigade made a remarkable " save," confining the actual fire to the centre shop although there were no brick party walls and all the premises were practically under one roof.
