"Clause 9."

A COUNTERBLAST TO W. W. COLLINS. (Per Press Association.) WELLINGTON, July 21. At a largely-attended public meeting convened for the Prohibitionists last evening, the following motion was carried, with few dissenters That whereas the accredited spokesman of the liquor traffic in this colony declared at the Opera House on Monday last tliat the effect of the passing of the " no-license, no-liq-uor " clause of last year's licensing bill would be to render the carrying of no-license in New Zealand impossible, this meeting (1) finds in this declaration an express admission by the " Trade," of the contention of Its opponents that the clause was designed to effect a fraudulent repeal of the popular powers of local option and (2) considers that if any such Clause Is passed by the present Parliament its repeal must be m a ae the paramount issue at the next general election.
