Municipal Conference.

(Per Press Association). WELLINGTON, July 20. The Municipal Conference resumed v'-his morning. .Dr. Mason, Chief Health Officer, in an address on the smoke nuisance, suggested that every borough should proclaim a manufacturing area, and that regulations should be passed to provide for proper stoking and means of miminising the emission of black smoke. It was resolved that Municipal Councils bo enabled to sell or exchange corporation lands. A special committee set up to de•fine "machinery" for rating purposes submitted the following':—"Not to include the plant, permanent way, pipes, or other apparatus and appliances of any gas company or water ' company." This was adopted.
