His Excellency the Governor.
♦ A FLYING VISIT. As intimated in yesterday's News liis Excellency the Governor, accompanied by his A.U.U. and private secretary, and tho lion. C. H. Mills, Commissioner of Trade and Customs, arrived at New Plymouth b,v the mail train last night. In the abseuoo of the Mayor the party were received on tile platform by the deputy-May-or, Mr \V. F. Brooking, and there were also present : Tho Mayoress (Mrs Cock), the Town Clerk (Mr F. T. Bell ringer), the Horough Councillors and a number of leading citizens. A portion of the station plutl'orm had been railed off and Sergt. Iladdreli, with one or two constables, were on the alert to control the crowd that assembled to catch a glimpse of his Excellency, Lord J'l.mket. r J'h« vice-ragal carriage was skilfully stopped at the appointed spot arid the lion. C. H. Mills having alighted conducted the deputyllayor to the carriage and introduced him to the vice-regal parly, ilis Excellency then left his carriage, aucompanied by the Hon. Minister and the deputy-Mayor, ami on reaching the reserved space was duly introduced to the Mayoress and Miss; Cock, and the following gentlemen Crs. Ahi or, Browne, Carter, Cliff, Collis, Medley, Wilson, and Wood, the Town Clerk, the Horough Engineer (MiGibbon), the Borough Solicitors (Messrs Go vet t and Quiliiaiu), the Chairman Taranaki County Council (Mr 11. Okey), the Chairman of the Harbour Hoard (Mr J. H. Uonnctt), Mr Newton King, Colonel Ellis, Major Okey, Mr E. (!. Allswortll (Chairman of the Education Hoard), \ ery Rev. Dean McKenna, Kev. Woolley (President Ministers' Association), Mr W. J. Penn (ICditor llerakl), Mr 11. Goodacre (Chairman Employers' Association), who thanked his Excellency lor accepting the position of patron of the forthcoming exhibition, and Mr J. H, Clayton, J.P, (Taranaki Daily News). After tho 'loruial introductions had been mnde tho Mayoress ofiered an exquisite bul ton-hole bouquet to his Excellency, and having pinned the flowers in position, the Hon. C. 11. Mills bocame the recipient of a similar favour. Three good British cheers were then given for the Governor and were gratefully acknowledged. The rest of the time during which the train remained at the station was spont by the Vice-regal party in pleasant converse with those who had assembled to pay their respects to their new Governor, and as the. train moved oil anotho* hearty round of cheers was given. On arrival at the breakwater the Governor and party boarded tho Northern Company's fine steamer liarawa, which left shortly after for Onehunga. At Auckland his Excellency will be received ny the Premier I rm vv 1( '| ft " ullin fi ton '» tho Ilineiuoa on Wednesday night.
