OUR LETTER BOX.

iwe txe at all times willing to publish eorrespondence on mutters of I üblie interest, but it must be distinctly understood that we are not identified, with the letters of our correspondents.—Ed. Daily Nowa.J REPLY TO WATCHWORD. (To the Editoi.) Sir—in your issue of the (Uh inst. wo notice a letter from mi anonymous correspondent culling attention to the Empire, liellevue, and Mansions Consolidated, Ltd., for which we thank him. The motive of his letter, however, is to attribute deeplaid schemes (or enlisting: sympathy against. Hie no-license parly and so turning the tide against that party in New Zealand, and with that object., according to your correspondent, these wily schemers propose to sell one hotol in Wellington, one heautiful pleasure resort known as McNuib's Gardens at the Hutt, which happens to have a license for what is not very different from a private dwelling-house attached to the gardens, and an unlicensed private boardlngj-house in Wclling'Um known as the ••Mansions." We think this must strike even your correspondent us a not very effective and somewhat roundabout way of influencing the licensing question. The position, however, really is that the three properties have a natural relation to each other, and can lie worked more remuneratively together than under separate ownership. The Bellevue Gardens have almost us great amputation as our own HfcriJ u ti o ' n Grounds, and the Empire Hortel being largely a resort of the /tourist class the lK . n erit V. , ,'~ , .¥'*J i fffJ* J ;'rie""attention of tourists and other guests at the Empire directed to them. Similarly the Mansions will bonelit by its connection with the Empire, by receiving guests from it who do not care for the publicity of h„tol life. Of the prolitalfleness of the investment there is no doubt, and we shall be pleased to give any further information at our office,—We are, etc..
