(Per Pross Association.) | AUCKLAND, July 4. At Ahuroa, near Helensvllle, yes|tswlay, the house of Mr S. Thornton oaught fire,about' noon. Two children were burnt to death. Mrs Thornton left the children in the house while she wont to the railway station. CHRISTCHUUCH, July 4. At an inquest on John ltlgby, who died on Saturday evening, tlu evidence showed that deceased haa Kwen taking special medicine to counteract the effect of drinking bouts. A verdict was found that deceased died from an overdose ol chloral, self-administered, but without suicidal intention. WAfPAWA, July 4. J. Powell, an old resident of Kaikora, committed suicide this morn ing. lie got on to a chair and jumped 'headfirst into a barrel of water. He had been suffering from pains in the head, for sumo time. I'ALMKUSTON N„ July 4. Charles Mitchell, u recent arrival from Pleasant Point, blew the top ol his skull off with a shotgun this morning-. No reason is at present assigned.
