—Electric Light, Tenders.— The council Uietufconsidered the tenders for insteifng the electric light. In answer to ll« Mayor, Mr Mestuyer stated tint the electric light tenders were for the supply and delivery of all mucAinery and materials, and the mctiun of live electric lighting system in full running order, as sift out iji thr plans und specilications, and maintaining the same for lihree months after erection. 'The tenders included everything except (a) the power house and districting station, (2) bringing water to the power Jiouso and the tail race, and (c) uiansiormcrs for private lighting. He could not say how much ■horse-power would be available for mothe jiower, but in the daytime there would prattably tie about 12U horse-power. The power-house would cust about £SOO, and the distributing station about' ,£IOO. He also stated that the plant tendered for was the most modern and up-to-date procurable. It was decided, that as rvconitneii-1 dud by Mr Mestayer, the tonder of the Jh-ush Company be "accepted, subject to such detail alterations as may Ibe arranged between Mr Mestayer and the successful tenderer, and Biibject to « satisfactory license Vising obtained from the Govern■ll.'Ollt. The following is the list of tenderers : The Brush Engineering Company (Sydney), £S2OU lis (accepted). Turaibull and Jones (Wellington), £5208 18s. A. imd T. Burt (liunedin), £6409 lis. S ten art and Fenn (Auckland), £0991 Is. N.Z. Electrical Construction Co. (Chrislchufch), £758(3. l'almer and Co. (Wellington), £B,457 2s, —Heservoir Tenders.— Tenderp for erecting the reservoir for the. new waterworks were then considered. It was decided that Mr Mestayer draft a special clause defining the broken metul to be used in place of ■gravel specified, and that Messrs Boon Bros, and Pikett and Co. be asked to submit a fresh tender on such clauses. The council then adjourned to 4 p.m. on Mond«y when Messrs Pikott and Co.'s tender of £3500 4s 6d for the reservoir was accepted,, the council feeling that it had no option but to adhere to the original specification. The acceptance in subject to such deductions as may uo arranged between the engineer and the contractors for substitution of •JTroken metal for gravel in concrete. Messrs liowo and i'uterson's tender for a snpply of G art on oats at 2s 2d per bushel was accepted. W. J. Smith will be employed temporarily at tho waterworks during the illness of the waterworks assistant.
