Manawatu Winter Show
INGLEWOOD AND MANGOREI FACTORIES SUCCESSFUL. (Per Press Association). I'ALMEUSTON N., Juno 21. The second winter show of tho Alanawatu and West Coast Agricultural and Pastoral Association was .pened to-day by tho -Minister for -ands in line weather. Tho show is emarkablo lor tlie very line display jf dairying machinery in motion, the •i>aco for which trebled that of last ..ear, the shafting being one hundred -uwl eighty-six feet long, and the whole display in the hall two hundred feet long by sixty wide. Poultry inakus an exceptionally good exhibition, with entries from all parts of tho island. Homo industries and agricultural produce have drawn nuni- < erous entries of good quality. The ,how is contained in covered buildings aggregating four hundred and inty feet long and sixty feet wide. Tho export butter contest, for ..Inch there are forty-four entries, was won by the Moa Farmers' CV -iperative Factory, Ingle-wood, with JI points, Mangoroi (New Plymouth) -eing second with 98J points. Mun- ' ii'ei won the novice prize for ex•>rt butter, with 08 points, Xuhuku eeing second, with S)2j points. I'HE NATIONAL DAIRY ASSOCIATION. I'ALMEUSTON N., Juno 21. The tenth annual • meeting of the National Dairy Association was held this morning. Mr R. W. Foreman (president) occupied the chair, and .here was a large atte-ndance of delegates and others interested. The report and balance-sheet were adopted. Messrs A. McFarlane (Ballance) and J. Young (Palmerston North) .vero re-elected directors, and Mr Morpeth (Wellington) auditor. Tho luestian of erecting freezing works n Wellington was referred to a committee. In the annual report reference was made to the urgent need of a dairy experimental station for scientific investigation. During the discussion reference was also made to the irregularity of the existing steam service to the homo markets and' the necessity of taking steps to regulate this condition of things. The committee oil the freezing works question discussed the matter, a,ivd Mr D. J. Natlian suggested |thai tho Wellington Meat Compuuy might l» induced to sell its works to either a syndicate of dairy farmers or the \Yjellint>iton Haillijour Hoard, and ,4o got over the difficulty. The committee will report to a future meeting. Another committee was appointed so report on the question of formulating a scheme for the more prolitajblo distribution of dairy produce in the home markets. A motion to increase the duty on white pine was lost, but it was derided to ask the Government to protect this timber in the interests oi (he colony.
