M, Lepiier, the following! figv ires are taken from the annual returns of tho Taranaki Hospital and Charitable Aid Board up to March Hist last :- RECEIPTS, £ s d Clovernmcnt subsidy of 2802 0 a Local bodies' contribs. 1975 10 4 Voluntary contributions 188 18 11 ' Bents 68 1 0 Payments by patients 1297 110 Other sources 780 13 9 Total £8607 1 8 In dispensing charitable aid t*e board spent £l7l in boarding out children, £IOB4 15s 6d in indoor relief ; £579 9a 7d in outdoor relief, and £403 10s 8d in wages at tha Home and in carrying on outdoor relief work. Twelve children were boarded out, at an average cost of os s}d per woek. Without taking' nto consideration tho rent of build- 1 ng's, the average cost of mainten'ir.e per inmate of the Old People's Homo was sixteen shillings per week. Tnranaki County sent in the largw est number of cases, the figures feeing : Tarnlnaki County 146, Kcw I'lymouth 1)5, Stratford County G7K Hawera 42, Clifton County' 37. Opumike 15, Auckland 11, Wellington (i. Want-wim 5. Patea 2, Australia 2, I'almerston North 1, Oamaru 1. The nationalities of the patients- , are interesting, being as follows : New Zealanders 266, English 80.. Irish 35, Scotch 8, Australian 20,. Herman 7. Austrian 1, Chinese 1„ Swedish 1, Jersey 1, American 8„ Hhvdeira 2, Isle of Man 1, Shetland! Isles 2, Indian 1, Portuguese 1, Danish 2. , There were 10.054 collective days" Btny in the institution, the individual average being' 24.4 days, and thedaily average cost per patient. 7s Id,. to which the patients contributed an average of 2s 7d per daj.
