A Footballer's Death.
RESPONSIBILITIES OK PLAYERS (Per Press Association.) WELLINGTON, June 1.6. A coroner's inquiry was held this afternoon into the circumstances surrounding the death of Edgar Thomson, aged twenty-one, which occurred yesterday from the consequences of a kick on the head received dining a Rugby match on Saturday. Evidence given showed (hat while the deceased was stopping a rush of opposing players lie stooped to pick up the ball and received a kick from a member of the Poneke team who tried to ki t k the ball. None of the witnesses could give the name of the player. Tho police pointed, out that it would be a good thing for footballers to remember that any net which caused death or serious injury came within the provisions of the criminal code. It hud been '"id down in one celebrated case tliut it. was not material to consider whether an net which caused death was or was not in accordance with the rules and practice of the game. A verdict of accidental death was returned.
