Licensing Matters.
(Per Press Association.) DUNEDIN, Juno J4, An application for a writ of mandamus against the late members of the Bruce Licensing Committee fo compel them to grant licenses which they declined to grant a fortnight a K o came before Mr Justice Williams tor-day. After argument, Ihe mandamus was refused, witho'it costs, on the ground that the committee having resigned they had no longer any authority, and a new committee not yet having been appointed there was no person before, the court against whom an order could be made.
Mr A. y. Adams informed Hie court that in connection with the Privy Council apjieal lie hail given no such undertaking as was s l at(! d l».v Aliss Ilengaiiiin before the committee, and every undertaking given b.v him had fully performed. In reply to a question by Mr Kim .vis Honor said, o„ looking at authorities, that it would be the duty of the new committee when appointed to hear and determine applications • but he would say nothing further until after argument.
