(to the invitation of the chairman Mr 0. Salnuel, chairman of the general committee set up to imiuire into means and methods of revlvtog interest in the society, explained the position. Briefly the recommends lions were (as previously published) tho acmt»isitiion of a new showground on the eastern side of Avenue Road; the engagement of a, secretary at a salary of not less than £IOO a year and a bonus; a show conducted on the lines of the Manaw&tu A. and l'. Show. After referring to other matters contained in the report, Mr Samuel moved that it be referred to the new general committee when elected. Mr Samuel also handed in a. plan of tho suggested site tuad a copy of the Royal Agricultural Society's programme for which he was indebted to Mr Moray, Jlr Okey secondod. Mr Foreman spoke In praise of the committee's recommendations. An jnergetic paid secretary would ih- - rease the members' list, an urgent lecossity. Mr Tate spoke of the necessity for .ncroosod support. The society bould have at least live hundred noinltti's, A hotter show must be .lold, in keeping with tho shows of .ither similar institutions. Mr McAllum did not think £IOO ivould be sufficient remuneration for i good secretary. Mr Samuel thought this a matter or the committee. The motion was carried after furJier discussion, and a vote of thanks accorded to the committee for their labours. The report of tho committee recommended that the president should oe chairman of committees, and fol.owing this idea Mr J. C. George moved that Mr Samuel bo president. Mr Samuel declined. He thought .hat Mr H, Weston would .be a good president, as he had always displayed practical sympathy in tho society's work, and had quite recently jiven vory valuable prizes for coni,ietititm. Mr Samuel considered, iiowever, that Mr Weston could not accept the position of chairman of ommittees, and after referring to i lie valuable services rendered in the past by Messrs Foreman and Tate, niovod that Mr Newton King be rotated president. Air Okey seconded, and despite Jlr iving's protest that lie would like a ear's spell, lie was declared elected amidst applause. On. the motion of the chairman, ■minded by Mr Tate, a vote of condolence was passed, oik! will be forwurdvd to the widow of the late Mr Hamulus Street, for many years a most valuablo member of the society. This concluded tho business of tho general meeting. A committee meeting was hold subsequently, and it was decided to invite applications for tho position of secretary at a salary of £75 and. rertnin commissions. Messrs 11. Okey and. W.
