Several vessels have reached the Cook group from Flint Island and report that the Upolu had not yet arrived. It is surmised that her machinery haa broken down again. Mr Justice Cooper and a special jury concluded, on Friday night, tin 1 ■hearing of an action brought by W. Cook, shipowner, of Lyttelton, against the l.'nion Company to recover £1532 damages for the sinking of the schooner Jessie Niccol by the company's steamer Rotomahana in Wellington harbour on the night of December 19th. The jury found that . et the time of the collision the schooner was not anchored in an unsafe position, that she exhibited proper lights, that the light was not seen by the officers of the Roto- i mahana, but should have been, and that the Rotomahana was solely re- i sponsible for the collision.
