Waitara West Road Board
At tho monthly meeting of the above board the members present were : Messrs Connett, Coxhead, French, Hellier and Turnbull. Mr Turnbull was elected chairman for the ensuing year. Lots were drawn and it was decided that Messrs French und Coxheud should retire at the end of the year. It was resolved that the board meet on the first Wednesday of each month at 1 p.m. The clerk was re-appointed at a salary of £25 per annum. Correspondence was read from Mr T. Wright re drainage of water from Wortley Itoad ; from Taranaki County Council re deviation of road to proposed new si te of bridge at Sentry Hill over tho Waiongona ; from Mr W. l'aton, stating that he would be satisfied with the sum of £2 for right of turning surface water across his property; from Messrs Govett und Quilliam re recovery of rates from Mr A. Graham, complaining of rates owing by Mrs Graham being sued for ; from Treasury stating' that loan on Kelly Hoad of ,£SO would lie granted, provided necessary steps were taken, and from Valuerkleneral, forwarding' Valuation ltoll corrected, and stating that valuations required for special rating purposes would be forwarded. The board's surfaceman applied for an increaso of wages of one shilling a day.—lt was resolved that the request bo not entertained and that if he is not satisfied with present rale of pay applications be invited for the position. It was resolved that the chairman and Messrs Connett and French make inquiries of County Council re agreement made at the first taking over of the Snake bridge. The Chairman, Mr Hellier and tin* clerk were appointed to revise the allocations on the district roads. Mr F. Ho.skin attended the meeting re payment of royalty on the Kelly Hoad contract, and Mr K. Turnbull attended with petition re carting of metal on the Kelly Hoad and requested the co-operation of the board.—This matter was held over until next meeting to allow the engineer to be present. Jhe Bunk ol New Zealand notified that the sum of £SOO had been paid by the Treasury to the Kelly Road account, and a cheque was drawn transferring this amount to tire loan account.—Waitara Muil.
