The Christmas Carnival.

EXHIWTION COMMITTEE. The Exhibition Committee met last night. Mr (Joodacre (chairman) presided, and there were also present! Messrs Carter, .1. C. Morey, sen., W. Amhlury, Doekrill, W. Newman, M. J. Jones, E. Snowball, G. llrowne, G. 11. Morgan, E. M. vSmith, H. Cock, W. E. Spencer, A. \V. Wood, M. Frasvr, MacPiannid, J. I'aton, V. K. Wilson, Staples, Okey. The building committee's action in calling tenders for levelling the building site was approved. The building committee recommended that tenders be called at once for the building, the contractor to find the material. They tiki not favour the suggestion that the comihittee shoukl iinri the material, as this would be against the interest of the local builders.

Mr Cock thought that alternative tenders should be called (1) for erecting the buildings at contractors' cost to be leased to the exhibition committee; and (2) to erect the buildings for the committee. The material must be of the best, else there would be difficulty of disposing of the wtulT when the building was done with.

Mr Carter seconded, and the motion was carried.

The specifications provide that the 'building shall be completed by 14th November.

Regarding medals, the secretary said that lie und the chairman had decided to import their own machine and strike their own medals. Since then Mr J. 11. Parker, who had been in correspondence with the Co-operative Jewellery Co. in Auckland, had learned from them that they were willing to lend the committee the machinery and a. man to work it, under Mr Parker's* supervision, the committee to pay the man's expenses to and fro and his usual wages.—The offer was accepted. The chairman and Messrs Morey and Arobury were appointed to select a design for the medals. The secretary said he had received a letter from Dr. North, a Baptist missionary, who had olTered to show his large and valuable collection of Indian curios, provided he were allowed to sell other curios that he would bring with him, the proceeds so go in aid of the mission work. It was explained that Dr. North wus bringing the collection with him irom .India.
