The Methodist Conference, sitting at Melbourne, gave Dr. Brown twelve months' leave to engage in literary work, on the progress of the missions. A telegram received In Auckland yesterday from Mangonui stated that the Government steamer llinemoa. with the Premier on board, was still sheltering there from the storm. Mr Seddon, in reply to a query regarding his health, said ho was enjoying the complete rest. lie concluded : "I am feeling my old self again, and if the improvement is lasting I will be fit for (he Bcssio*."Mr T. Twigg, for scventc-i years foreman to the Hawera Cour Council, anil a very useful re: jit in South Taranaki, was made the recipient of some valuable presentations on Saturday. The County Council presented him with a gold watch, and the county employes with a silver tea set for Mrs Twigig. From the Egrhont A. and P. Association he received a gold albert and sovereign case, and from the Hawera Acclimatisation Society a massive marline clock.
