A Venerable Locomotive.
An Interesting relic (says the scientific American), reminiscent of the first days of the steam locomotive, has been discovered in the north of England. The Liverpool and Manchester Railway Company, the first public line constructed, it will be remembered, inaugurated a competition in the latter part of the twenties' of the p'asl century for a locomotive, in which Stephenson and other inventors participated. Three en-gines-the "Rocket," by Stephenson ■ the "Sana Parcil," by Hackworth ; and the "Novelty," by Braithwaite and Ericsson, respectively—participated in the trials that were canied out in WW. As is well known Stephenson's "Rocket" secured the award 01 £SOO which was offered, as being the most suitable engine attaining a speed of 29 miles an hour.
