Moturoa Mission Room.
For vears past the authorities or the Church of England have been desirous of meeting the religious wants of the people around tire harIbour of Moturoa and providing a place of worship for them. The want of a suitable site for the building prevented the carrying out of the project for some time, until at last the sale of the Wbiteley township gave an opportunity of securing an excellent site. The settlers in tire neighbourhood showed their interest 'by suu, scri'bing a good round sum towards the building, and promising further aid in the future by means of a sale of work. The result is that a very neat and convenient building has been erected by Messrs Cliff Brothers, which is a decided improvement to the district, and will give sufficient accommodation for worshippers for some years. The building was opened for di\ine worship on Friday last by the Venerable Archdeacon Cole, when, notwithstanding the wind and rain, a good congregation gathered together. Some inem'bers of St. Mary's choir had braved the wintry weather, together with many of the most active workers in the parish who take a deep interest in any forward movement of the church. The vicar, Rev. F. G. Evans, and the assistant clergy, Revs. Smith and Bradbury, were present, and took part in the opening ceremony. Mr E. Golding presided at the organ. The service was remarkably hearty, und it is to be hoped will be a foretaste of the future services to be held in the building, thoroughly congregational and sympathetic. The Archdeacon gave a very telling and interesting address, which will live long in the memories of those who heard it.
The Rev. A. Mclnnes Bradlbhiry will have the particular oversight of this part of the parish. The opening services will be continued next Sunday, when the Vicar will preach. A number of presents have been given to the church—amongst the numbler two seats from Mr Searlc, two seats from Mr A. Standish, hanging lamp from Mr McKellar, in addition to the various sums given by settlers and other friends, and which will be acknowledged in due course.
