H.M.s. Pyladcs arrived at the Island of Gavutu on May 21st. The weather of the past week has been the heaviest experienced at the Manukau Heads for the past two yeare.

The steamer Glenelg, bound for Opunake and Wanganui, has been detained at Manukau Heads since Thursday.

Recently the coastal steamer Kapiti took her record cargo into Waitara—a load of 115 tons from Wellington. When going through the French Pass lately from Wellington, the steamer Alexander, during a gale, sheered, and carried away the buoy placed at the south bank of the pass". The buoy was taken to Nelson. The vessel was uninjured. The Union Company's steamer Tapapuna is to lie up in Wellington for nearly three weeks in order to undergo an exhaustive overhaul. She will be placed on the patent slip this week.

A Press Association message reports very heavy weather, with a high sea, on the Manukau bar. The Ngapuhi, bound for New Plymouth, left Onehunga on Sunday afternoon and made three attempts to cross the bar, but was unsuccessful. She returned to the wharf yesterday.

As the overhaul of the Northern Steamship Company's Rarawa will occupy a longer period than was at first anticipated the vessel will not re-enter the New Plymouth—Onehunga trade until next Sunday, the 12th inst.

Owing to the heavy weather at Manukau the Northern S.S. Co.'s Ngapuhi was compelled to abandon yesterday's run to New Plymouth. She will now leave the northern port ■to-morrow, arriving here as usual on Thursday morning and returning north on the arrival of the mail train in the evening.
