SPORTNG.
(Per Press Association.) PALMERSTON N., May 19. A case of considerable interest to the sporting community was heard in the Supreme Court before Sir Robert Stout, Chief Justice, to-day. W. Homes, a trainer, brought an action against Ronald Cameron to have an alleged partnership wound up. Holmes stated that he and the defendant jointly owned (by verbal agreement) the racehorse Rangimoe, but Cameron seized the horse in February with the intention of selling. For the defence it was alleged that no such agreement existed, hut that Holmes was employed by Cameron to train and race Rangimoe. Homes was severely cross-examin-ed by Mr Louis Cohen, and admitted that Rangimoe had run in Cameron's name only, whereas under the rules of racing a partner was liable to be warned ofl the course for not registering. Counsel pressed Homes as to his connection with the notorious Kalmea case a few years back. Holmes denied having won money over Kulmea's win. Reference was also made to the running of Rangimoe at Foxton and Pahiatua, and witness denied that he was not trying to win at Foxton. " I shall call the jockey to swear that you instructed him not to win," said Mr Cohen, who continued that he would also call the jockey (Jenkins) who won with Rangimoe on the second day at Pahiatua to prove that Homes told him never to bo "in the race." Homes denied the allegations. Hugh McArtney, of Palmerston, a hotel-keeper, was also cross examined as to the Kalmea case, and denied that he put money on for Homes. The case wns adjourned till Friday, when Jenkins and another jockey will be called. Betting on the English Derby is quoted as follows :—9 to 4 against Gouvernant, 5 to 1 St. Amant, John O'Gaunt and Henry I.
