Land Board.

The Land Board met yesterday. Present : Messrs .1. Mackenzie (Commissioner of Crown Lands, in the chair), Heslop, ilattenbury and Connett. —Appointment of Menvber. — The Government notified Mr .lames ltnttenbury's appointment as a member of the board. —Lands Applied For.— The lands applied for since last meeting were : —Sec 1, block 2, Aria, A. Morgan and D. Finnignn, 586 acres, l.i.p. ; sec V), block 14, Waro, V. Rea, '176 acres, o.r.p. ; sec 1, block 13, Aria, Albert Barnett.,l3oo acres, l.i.p. ; sec 8, block 3, Aria, H. Budd, 577 acres, l.ip. ; sec 4, block 14, Aria, 11. F. llursthouse and W. Telfar, 1079 acres, l.i.p. ; sue 5, block 0, Aria, 11. W. Best and F. 11. Ogier, 500 acres, l.i .p. The last-named applied to withdraw their application and obtain a refund of their deposit, as they thought the undertaking would prove too much for them.

It was decided to allow them to withdraw their application, but that they be informed they cannot have the deposit refunded. The schedule was approved. Sections applied for on Tuesday were :—Sec 3, block 7, Aria, Samuel Hunter, 914? acres, l.i.p. ; sec 3, block 14, Aria, K. W. 1). Esdaile, 835 acres, l.i.p.—Approved, provided there are no other applications

for these sections. A schedule of the result of the sale of town sections in Whangamomona township was laid on the table, and confirmed, —Transfers.—

Resolved that these applications be approved, provided all papers are in order. —Mortgages.— Consent was given to certain inertgages. —Forfeiture.— A schedule of selectors in the Mangapapa and Totoro improved farm settlements who had not signed l the acceptance of their sections within the specified time was tabled as under :—F. Malone, sec 10, block 12, Aria; C. Coad, sec 15, block 12, Aria ; J. Cormihah, sec 4, block 1, Aria ; J. Lynch, sec 11, block 2, Aria ; C, Brown, sec 15, block 2, Aria ; A. J, Stevens, sec 2, block 2, Totoro ; D, O'Leary, sec 17, block 2, Aria; J. J. Levett, sec 8, block 9, Totoro ; C. Clark, sec 15, block 9, Totoro ; F. A. J. Lee, sec 21, block 9, Totoro. Resolved that the interests of these persons be declared forfeited, and that they be informed that they have oiw month in which to apply for a re-hearing of their respective cases. —Sections for Sale.— A schedule and plan of four sections comprising 4680 acres, being the former small grazing runs in the Opaku district, was laid on the table, together with the ranger's valuations and prices. Resolved that the schedule be adopted ; that the fixing of the valuation for improvements be arranged by the Commissioner and the ranger, and that the sections be opened for sale or selection under part 3 of "The Land Act, 1892," weighted with the valuations for improvements.

—Application for Remission of Rent—--11. Mckenzie applied for a remission of rent on sees 18, 19, and 21, block 2, Upper Waitura, on account of heavy losses by floods. Resolved that consideration of the matter be postponed until the board has had an opportunity of visiting the locality. —Deferred.— G. 11. Stevenson applied' for sec 3, block 5, Ohura, under section 114 of "Tho Land AcL, 1892," in order to make his own holding more workable.—Deferred tMI next meeting.

—Valuation for Improvements.— The Commissioner reported that the valuation for improvements due to George Firbank on sec 10, block 9, Mimi, had been paid, amounting to £l4 0s lid.—Action confirmed. —Makahu Dairy Factory.— The Commissioner submitted the valuation of Makahu dairy factory site, and of improvements effected on the land, which had been sent forward for notification.—The price and valuation confirmed. —Huiakama Village.— The Commissioner submitted valuation of sec 41, Huiakama Village, and of tile improvements thereon, which had been sent for notification. —The price and valuation were confirmed. —Surrender Accepted.— T. It. Etherington asked again that sec 10, block 9, Waro, be allowed to ?>c surrendered.—The surrender was accepted. —•Section Forfeited.— _J. McGillicuddy asked that sec •j, block 5, Waro, be declared forfeited, as ne found he was unable to work it.—Application granted. —He-oiiering a Section.— The Under-Secretary for Crown Lands advised that the MinisLor of Lands had approved of the acceptance of A. C. Simpson's surivnder of sec 81, block 4, I'aritutu. —.Resolved that the section be reolTered. —Lease Granted.— John Day was given a lease for one year at -CI per annum of sec 37, block 1, Upper Waitara. —Non-liesidence.— A letter was read from Thus. Henry, as to non-residence on sees 1 and '2, block 1, Omona. lie stated that lie had spent all his money on the improvements, and could not afford to build and reside at present. Resolved that the board dispense with residence for twelve mourns,but during that period the tenant must have made satisfactory arrangements for personal residence. J. J. \V. Harle wrote with regard to non-residence oil sees 13 and JB, block <>, lvupara, that the sawyers had been laid up through illness, but that the building would be proceeded with as soon as possible. Resolved that the board has already given ample time in which to reside, and if he does -not go on to the land within six months the sec•tions will be declared forfeited. Airs A. Coxhead asked that residence on her husband's s*ec 23, block 1.3, Pouatu, be accepted as residence ua her sec 15, block 15, I'ouaui.

Resolved that three months' extension of time be granted, as the building is now being erected.

—Overdue Kenls.— A schedule of tenants in arrears whose cases were deferred until this meeting was presented, and it was resolved that, as they had not paid their rents they be placed on the list oi those who must be sued for recovery.

Armitage and Hunger, who were in arrears with rent on sec 8, block 9, Pouatu, asked that their interest be declared forfeited, as they could not spend any more money on the place, which was dillicult of access. The request was agreed to, and they will be sued for recovery of rent overdue. —Forfeiture Deferred.— T. I-lurley asked that the forfeiture of sec 4, block (>, Opaku, be rescinded. It was decided that if the transfer |is completed without delay and the applicant continues to reside on the land the resolution of forfeiture will be rescinded. A. Carman waited on the Hoard with reference to the forfeiture of sec 3, block 6, Opaku, for non-resi-dence. He said he could not see his way to comply with the conditions at present, as he had no means to stock the land, and uccess hral previously been difficult. Action Was deferred until next meeting. —Purchasing Freehold.— Charles Davis waited on the board in support of an application by himself and his family to acquire the freehold of sections at I'unehu. liesolved that the Commissioner he empowered to issue the . title provided he is satisfied that all matters are in order. The board rose at noon.
