IMPROVED WOOL PRICES

Cattle.—Prices were lower. Best bullocks £lO ss, good £9 9s, best cows £7 10s, good £6 10s, best beef 21s per 1001b. AGENT-GENERAL'S ADVICE, WELLINGTON, May 16. The Department of Industries «nd Commerce received the following cablegram from the Agent-General, dated London, ,14th : Mutton.—The market is quiet. Trade is very disappointing, there bemg only a limited demand. The aVorage price to-day for Canterbury mutton is 4}d per lb, for Dunediii, ' Southland, and Wellington Meat Export Company's brands 4Jd,. for other brands of North Island mutton ltd. Lamb.—Tho market is weak,—Aver* (irice to-day for Canterbury braird is ojd [.er lb, average price for brands other than Canterbury sfrd. Thoro is a better demand for beef. Average price to-day for hindquarters of New Zealand beef is BJd per lb, t fores 2Jd. Butter.—Tho market is lifeless. New /enland butter now being delivered is giving satisfaction to buyers. Average price for choicest New Zealand uulter 84s per cwt., Australian 89s, Argentine 82s, Danish 98s.
Cheese.—The market is failing. Average price of finest New Zealand choose is 40s per cwt. Hemp.—The market is quiet, with a-ry limited business doing. I'rice for New Zealand hemp, good fair Wellington grade, on spot, £Bl 10s per ton. May to July shipments are quoted at £3l.
There is no alteration to report in the cocksfoot seed market slnco cabling last week. Wool.—Tho market is active at advanced prices. Current Bradford quotations for tops are : Thirty-sixes Is 4jd, forties Is Id, forty-fours lg IJd, iifties Is 3Jd, fifty-sixes Is 6d, sixties 2s.
