APPLICATIONS are invited for the right to cut. timber on 11,000 acres of bush in the North Island. The timber, which can be immediately utilised, is puriri, within two miles of the sea coast, and the best that can be obtained in the colony. Many of the trees, which have been inspected by Mr Charles Clayton, Government Surveyor and exsawmill proprietor, are by girth from 9 to 15 feet, and in length from 14 to 30 feet. The bush is easy of access and to work, ami should prove a most remunerative investment for any capitalist or company. Mr Charles Clayton says " There are plenty of places throughout New Zealand where mills are placed with nothing like the timber and prospects that, the bush in question possesses, and the great facilities and advantages for working it." The object should be first to deal with the puriri, as the Government Railway Department! oiler an in.mediate market for sleepers in any quantity. This bush has been sought after for the last 25 years, but the difficulty in dealing with the natives lias hitherto been insuperable. The N.Z. Herald supplement recently contained a notice of the excellent quality of the timber on this land. It is estimated that there is ample tiimbeil to furnish a supply for 20 or 30 years.
