TAXING COMPANIES.

AN APPEAL FROM THE COLONIES. (Received May 12, 10.10 p.m.) LONDON, May 12. The Australasian Agents-General, and Lord Strathcona, High Commissioner for the Dominion of Canada, have entered a protest with Hon A. Lytteltom against tho Irnporial Income Tax Commission claiming the whole of the profits of companies established in the colonies, and having branch directorates in the Uni ted Kingdom. The liability for assessment here is based upon a misconception, and is hold to be imimpolitic and calculated to causetrouble. It is unfair 'to expect the colonies to pay a double tax here.
