The Appeal • Board of the Racing Conference delivered judgment to-day in cases submitted to it. The appeal in the case in which the owner of Convoy appealed against the owner of Gladsome receiving the Stakes in the Wellington Cup and Wellington Handicap was upheld, the Board giving as a reason that rule 143 expressly states that only holders of jockeys' licenses and apprentices' licenses are qualified to ride. The judges held that by the rule, supported by other sub-sections, an apprentice is only qualified to .ride after he has served one year of apprenticeship, and after lie had applied and obtained a license.
The Board also upheld the appeal in the Platypus-Uenei'actor case oil similar grounds.
iD. McKinnon's appeal in connection with tho owner of Beddington, when lie ran a race in Auckland two years ago, was dismissed.
WELLINGTON, .May 12. The decision of the Racing Appeal Board in connection with the Convoy-Gladsome case means that the owner of the filly will be called upon to refund the amount of staves won at the Wellington Summer meeting (£860). As the filly won other important races in the colony with the same jockey up, further refunds will probably bring tho totul amount to £2OOO.
