NEAR EAST DANGER.
MACEDONIAN OUTLOOK UNPROMISING. The Marquess of Lonsdowne (Secretary of State for Foreign Affairs), replying to Earl Spencer, spoke almost despairingly of Macedonia reforms, and said that any conference ■ of the Powers would be productive of little good unless it was agreed at the outset on the question of a practical remedy. A The newspapers infer that Russia , and Austria are opposed to a permanent settlement on the basis of autonomy, and that other Powers Trill not assist Britain seriously to 1 find a solution.
