Poisoned by Honey.
(Per Press Association.) AUCKLAND, May 3. Arthur Cooper, Edward Ewen, (leorge Garden, of Ponsonhy, and I Thompson und Hughes, of Keropekl, were poisoned through eating wild | honey at Piako River, and were taken to the Thames. Cooper and Hughes are still unconscious. FURTHER PARTICULARS. A TRYING TRIP. THAMES, May f>. Cooper and Hughes, members of a shooting party who partook of poisoned wild honey, recovered consciousness this evening, and hopes are entertained of their recovery, After tho poison had done its work among four of the party it was decided to return to the Thames in an oil launch. Cooper and Hughes were in too weak a condition to do anything and were occasionally attacked with a kind of paralysis. All they could do was to He lii tho bottom of the launch. Carden, too, was very ill, and the onerous task of looking after the engines fell upon Owen, who was also suffering severely from tho effects of poison. There was some whiskey on board and by drinking the liquor the effects of the poison were diminished, and Owen \yas able to attend to the work, on the continuance of which the lives of the others depended. Ho drank kerosene and whiskey until it. acted as nn emetic (iml though ho nearly succumbed he managed to stick to the engines until the wharf was reached. It was a most trying and sensational journey.
