SUGGESTED AMENDMENTS. (Per Press Association), ' WELLINGTON, April The acting-Minister in cb»* * Ihe inspection of macMw ' K ° 01 ment, lion. C.. It, -J' departia any " S| sa y® 'hat 9 tion of *-hc Inspecprovtdin» Wf y Act the matter of cl(ism . the issue of thirdSjoC ,r- oil of the minimum power for ,nd class certificates will be considered on tho lines suggested by the deputation on the 15th. Mr Mills docs not consider tho appointment of an inspector for surprise visits to toilers nnd engines would be attended with the rcsultH anticipated by the deputation, as tho department's experience shows that visits of such inspectors soon become known to owners ; conscujuen- . ' tly visits do not coine as a bur- s prise. Moreover, in the caso of large plants, several days must foe occupied preparing for inspection, m everything must be cool nnd clean. Mr Mills thinks the mandatory provisions of the present act sufficient to deter the overloading of safety valves. The matter of printing a list of all in the colony will receive consideration when tho department's annual report is being compiled.
