l.asl evening at St. Mary's Church Mr J. Kyun was presented by Rev. Evans, on behalf of the choir, with a very handsome coal-scuttle on the occasion' of Ms leaving ( for Auckland. When Mr E. M. Smith, M.H.H., entered iho Town Hall yesterday afternoon, his appearance was greeted _ with applause. The citizens were evidently pleased to soo our popular member ngnin taking his part in public functions. His WtM'ship the Mayor has received the following message from the Right. Hon. the Premier : "H. Uock, E!<j.,M|h'vor, New Ply-mouth.-l am leaving for Chathams on Monday, and am ordered complete rest. 1 am feeling much better, but, it will be impossible! for me, much as I should wish, to taki part in the unveiling ceremony.—R, .1. Heddon."

Jn asking Mr Morgan to accept the gift Mr Clayton stated that witli it went tho wishes of everyone in the establishment for the future happiness, health, and prosperity of the suto-editior anil the bride-elect. Mr Morgan suitably responded.
