Euryalua—which arrived in Australian waters recently, was commissioned at Plymouth on Jan.; 4, and left England for Ho(wrt on tbe 22nd of -that month. The Euryalus is quite a new ship, and belongs to the Cressey type, of first-class armoured cruisers. She Fas built by Messrs Vickers, and Son, of Barrow, where she was launched fa 1801. The armament of the Euryalus consists of two 9.2 in guns, twelve 6in, fourteen 12-pr, twelve prand eight machine guns. There are two submerged broadside torpedo tubes, whioh discharge •18in torpedoes of the latest type. Her armour is as follows :—Belt 6in, deck 3.2 in, side below the belt 2in. When completed the cost of She Euryalus reached £804,259. The ship's Company numbers about 750 all told. Speaking of the crew, it is Worthy of mention that there are two large cool chambers, so that fresh provisions are always available* None of the other ships on tbe station are fitted with these improvements. It may be interesting {to compare with the measurements given above the corresponding dimensions of H.M.S. Royal Arthur. Ille Royal Arthur is a first-class cruiser of 7708 tons displacement, and tor indicated h.p. is 12,000. Her, length is 360 ft, breadth 61ft, depth 24ft 7m. The armament consists oi' one 9iin guns, twelve 6in, seventeen &-pr, 3 q.f., and seven machine gun's, and four torpedo tubes. Hex speed is 19.7 knots. The name of the new flagship, Euryalus, is pronounced yith the accent on the y, Euryalus is a Greek word, meaning "broad n.ail."-
