WORK AND WAGES.
UNEMPLOYED IN" SYDNEY. SYDNEY, April 16. A meeting of two thousand persons, the Lord Mayor presiding, discussed the unemployed question. A committee was appointed to dovise means of affording work. THE IRONWORKERS' TRADE. SYDNEY, April 10. A deputation from the Ironworkers' Associjutjion waited on the (Hon. U. 13. Wise and asked tho Government, to manufacture locomotives locally instead of importing them. 'J'hc estimated cost was about XI per cent, more, but, the work would give employment to 000 men for live years. Mr Wise replied that the (iovernment was sincerely anxious to develop the iron industry, but he could not give a definite answer, owing to the Premier's absence. Ha strongly urtywl the masters and men to come to an agreement which could be registered in the Arbitration Court, otherwise it would lie foolish to start building) locomotives if there was a risk of work being interrupted by labour difficulties.
