THUTII ON TAN.VEIi. Cbristchurch Truth waxes satirical concerning .Mr Felix Tanner's, latest attempt to achieve fume. This is how Mr Tanner strikes the southern mind :—So other countrj in the world has produced such a notoriety-loving crank us l-'eJii Tanner. Tanner is going to gel famous or die ill the attempt. Recently he casually mem iom d lie was going to sail round the world in a small crait that had been specially manufactured for the purpose. Everything being ready Tanner wen! down to the beach and shoved oil, .but liis cockleshell was almost immediately cast up Ijiy an angry anu protesting deep. This was an act oi Providence and should have lueen .suflicient warning to Tanner not to •again tempt I'i'te. Then he endeavoured to starve himself to death, ■ but the community saw nothing ii. ,the proceeding in get wiluiy ex•cited over, and when it v.as eating its tasty hit of .steal; for breakfast even lorgot to look in the paper to see how much thinner Tanner had gut during the preceding twenty-four hours. This lack oi .enthusiasm must have been almost heart-breaking to Tanner, but his resolution to tear a confession of his greatness out of lhat same stolid ami immovuMc public is us intense as ever. lie is now out ,with the announcement that he will roll round the planet in a XXXX barrel or something. What route he will sail l-y has not ,\et been made known, i.lll llu-tv is every prospect of his lirst and only port of call being J>. Jones private dock. Tanner should sijuelrh this wild desire for fame. Should he happen to gel round the world in his i>,orrel he will not be satisfied ; he will keep on trying to break his own record till he will ultimately have to make the voyage in a large cake tin, or on a surfboard. If he is so bent on committing suicide, why not do it in a regular and respectable manner —with six feet of mam la or some rough on rats ?
