Taranaki County Council.

The council met on Monday. Prosent : Mr Okey (chairman), (Jrs. McDonald, Brown, llopson, Urey, Hill, unci Andrews. OUTSTANDING RATIOS.

On the motion of OYs. Jirown and Andrews, the clerk was instructed to sue Tor all rates outstanding. GENERAL. It was decided to grunt a quantity of stone to bo spread at the junction of Kuiniata an'd Junction Roads. FOREMEN'S REPORTS. Thy Moa foreman, Mr Orr, reported that he had closed in a drain tit. Mr Zimmerman's paddock at a cost of JM lis, the council's half; that ho had got permission from Mr John J)ol»si/n to cut a chain in his Jpa-d----dock to get a bjelter fall to the culvert , u culvert was required at Mr (I. Taylor's property at Slippery llill ; a support had been carried away by floods at bridge ; and that provision woul'd have to be made for more metal on the Junction Roiul on each side of Kuimata.

Mr Walker (Moa) reported that the recent rains had thinned the Junction Road in places bwtween Kent and Mango rei roads and he would rui/yiire 000 instead of 500 yards of metal ; he had employed Messts Hunt, J. Locke, and Eller. ham to do the work speciliud ; that lie had sold old limber to Mr Jordan for .I.os ; that the roads and bridges were in fair order. He had taken a holiday from April 4th to lllh. The Waitara foreman reported, inter alia, that there hud been 20-1 yards of metal carted on Coleslljy's contract.

Mr Kvetts (Omnia foreman) reported that roads under repair had received the following (luautilli'es of metal 118! yards of crushed metal from Messrs J. O. Jlontefiore (788 yurds) and 11. M-ace (fllia yards) contractors. The Oukura contract let to Mr Mace would have to be extended 200 yards, lie had placed 20 yards of metal to make an approach to Okato Hall. The Chairman moved and Mr McDonald seconded that step* be taken to make the Tariki road a district road.

Or. Hop.sou moved and Or. Brown seconded un amendment—That a conference foe arranged between the 'Moa ltoad Board and the County Council to deal with the qtuestion. The amendment was lost and the resolution carried. Mr W. 11. Matthews wrote asking for repairs to Tariki ltoad. lie will be informed thai the Council -does not recognise liability beyond the .bridge. A petition was rend hum settlers on the Tariki road requesting the Council to pay particular attention to repairing Mangfanni bridge. Five settlers waited on the Council in support af the application. The Chairman moved and Or. llill seconded that the bridge carpenter report on this bridge and take the necessary steps to protect Uh> same. Or. llopson moved an amendment that Messrs Orbell and Mackay be asked to report. Seconded by Or. McJ Jonald. Mr Hichavdson, ot Inglewood, applied op bchali of Uio .Inglewood Klectric Lighting Co for permission to construct a dain across the Ngatoro stream, lour chains below thu Junction Koad bridge. This dam would raise the water to airout three feet above the normal lo- 1 vel of the stream. When the river, was at a low level the water would gain exit by a tumid, but there was in thu scheme to iuteri'ero with the escape of ilood water. ELECTRIC LIGHTING PERMITS. The New Plymouth and lngiewood Borough Councils applied for permission to erect poles and wire for conveyance of electric current from the generating stations to the boroughs named. Mr Koy, comity solicitor, wrote, forwarding a suggested resolution {.}, anting permission under conditions and this was carried with slight amendment. The lngiewood Borough Council's application to allow residents in Ihe country to take the light was referred to the solicitor. CONTRACTOR'S 1,1 ABILITY. Mr F. 11. Sat'npson wrote that Mr J. 11.
