The chairmn-n (Mr (!. 11. Mason) staled that a number of players relied on their ability *i.nd reputation to get them places in representative teams, and did not trouble to train. The result wns that they kept rattling good players out, and if the province could only win matches by choosing such men, he thought it was time to be-g-in losing matches. The Faster games in Wellington this season were very interesting. Honours were evenly 'divided, Wellington winning from Christchurch by 1 I points to ; and llawera beating Melrose by <> to •'>. Xapier and Ponekc pltiyed a drawn game. At Christchurch tie; matches on Saturday werv ehiclly noticeable for the want of condition among Ihe players. Linwood beat Union (T)unodin) by two tries to nil ; Merivule scored three points (a penally goal) to lour (a goal from a mark) by Alhi'imbra (JHtroxUn), and Albion defeated South Punedm by a try to nil. Jn Association football at Christchurch a Wellington team was defeated by three goals to two. At the annual meeting of the Okaiawa Club Mr J as. O'Sullivan was appointed senior captain, Mr If. Crocker vice-captain, Mr P. Edwards junior captuin, and Mr E. J. j Pelts vice-captain for juniors. A committee was set up io impure re opening a gymnasium lor the club. Mr A. Lees, the secretary, was made the recipient of a presentation from the club, in recognition of his services.
