The Tarunaki Rifles and Guards paraded last evening for inspection by Colonel Ellis. Major Ellis, Cnp-Inin-Adjulunt Malone, and Cuptninliuurtermusler Cock were also present. There were fair musters of the corps. After inspection thu companies were exercised in musketry Ivy the non-commissioned olliccrs, ami SiulT-Scrgcunt-Mnjor Sanderson gave a lecture on "outposts." ilefore the Turaimki Hides wero dismissed Captain Weston invil.it! Major Okey to address the men, and the .Major referred to the fart that that, day was the nnniversnrv of the Untile of Wuireka. Forty-four vcars ago that day the first piopvriy-or-gnnised volunteer mililarv force in the history of the llrit'ish Empire went under lire (o preserve the honour and prestige of Hie fniou ,hirk. That, force was I lie forerunner of the present Tnrantiki R-iiles. and meiuliers to-day should l,e proud (o belong to the corps. It had n history ol which many another corps would give much to he the possessor. Three cheers were given for Captain Cock, who was present, at Haiivka as u member of thu corps and the parade dismissed. The Easter "manoeuvres" are, it if understood, "oil."
