'l'he ion recently made that secret commissions had" been paid hy the I'. ami O. and Orient Companies to an export agent on freights on butter is causing a stir; iia dairying circles. Many factories and shippers who have arrangements with the companies named, and who have not had the advantage some few are alleged to ! have had, have heen led to think they can legally claim a thrco pe< I cent, rebate on their freight; be--1 cause their arrangements provide 'that if mail companies reduc* I freights to any shipper from Australian ports, some redfiction must be made to other shippers. It is claimed that a three per cent, commission paid is equivalent to ar* duction of freights. The Government has dccldod to appoint a ltoyal Commission to Investigate the whoio question.
