The Auckland Harbour Board has decided to have a well sunk near the sea water front for the purpose of ascertaining whether a good supply of fresh water can be obtained for the use of the shipping. The number of passengers booked up to date by the lonic, which Is to sail from Wellington on the 31st inst. for London, is 47 first, 54 second, and 81 third-class, making a total of 182. The Tyser steamer Mimiro took from Wanganui 20,000 raracses mutton and lamb, 350 casks tallow and peltt, and 350 bales of wool. After completing her loading she sailed for Wellington. A Wellington message says :—The Uarine Eepartment is about to issue a regulation that where a cargo steamer carries more than four boats H will only be necessary to kei-p three-fourths of such boats provided with stores in view of shipwreck. The Shaw, Suvill and Albion Co.'s new tmn-screw steamer Matatua, ;which is on her way to Auckland iwith cargo from Glasgow and Liverpool, will, after discharging at the northern port, call at Wellington, Lyttelton, and Durtedin successively. This vessel is the first belonging to the Shaw, Savill, and Albion Co. to load at the ports on the west coast of Great Britain. The Auckland Harbour Board steam fire-float came near to being itself burned the other night. The Board's watchman saw that smoke .was coming from the boiler room at on early hour, and made the discovery that some of the woodwork had caught alight. He called a constable, and the wharf firemen were alarmed. They took a hose reel to the boat, and promptly set to work, getting the fire in hand before it secured too strong a hold. The damage was not extensive, which caught alight through the Ijeat from the banked-up fires of the boiler. The Nippon Yusen Kaisha liner Xnstba Maru, which left London while .war hung in the balance, was dodging Russian ships till she got clear of the Red Sea. Her captain painted her funnel red, and had the name out, and went as a Glen liner. At Port Said the Hussian Admiral pulled round the vessel, and had a good look at her. Once clear of the canal the vessel's speed carried her well ahead of the shadowing fleet. The Tyser liner Indraghiri, from London, via Melbourne and Sydney, is due at Wellington on the 30th inst.
