A BOER OBJECTION. ' CAPETOWN, March 10. Ihe Boer ex-General J. (J Smuts, is objecting to Chinese immigration to the Transvaal. He blames the Government for attempting to maintain the mining industry at all costs, and adds that the major part of the mining companies are bogus. If eighty per cent, were allowed to pass' into bankruptcy twenty per cent, would be profitably worked. AUSTRALIA'S " PROTEST." MELBOURNE. March 17. In the Sennte, on the motion of Senator Playford, the words "emphatically protest " were replaced by the words " records its grave objection to " in Senator McGregor's motion protesting against the ' employment of Chinese in the Transvaal. Senator Playford declares that Australians little thought when they sent their sons to light for the liberation of the I'itlanders that it would be followed by the introduction of Chinese. It was a subterfuge, heard of before iir South Australia and (.ueensland. The motion as amended was carried. A MOTION OF CENSURE. (Received March 17, 10.0 p.m.) LONDON, March 17. In the House of Commons Sir Henry Carnpbeli-llannerman gave notice of a motion of censure on Ministers for not advising the Crown to disallow the Chinese ordinance in the Transvaal. A CURT MESSAGE. MR W. T. STEAD'S PRESENCE NOT DESIRABLE. (Received March 18, 0.29 a.m.) CAPETOWN, March 17. Lord Milner has telegraphed to Mr W. T. Stead that he is not wanted in the Transvaal.
