FIREMEN'S CONTESTS.

THE GEELONG DEMONSTRATION (Received March 11, 3.10 p.m.) MELBOURNE, March 13. The Geelong fire brigades demonstration was a highly successful affair, the town being en fete und illuminated. Prior to the commencement of the practical events a parade and grand torchlight procession took place, eighty-six brigades participating. The Victorians representatives mustered very strongly. The various events were keenly contested. The New Zealamiers won the resAe event for two men in fine style, in 18 4-ssec., beating Geelong west by four seconds, and easily 'outdistancing all other competitors. In response to a popular demonstration the New Zealand team paraded on the track and gave a Maori war cry, and; Beveral novel choruses. Thiiy ccmpeted in other events, including the hoso and ladder practices for eight men and engine, and engine practices for one, three and eight men, but though they did excellent work .they failed to get placed.
