Leasehold v. Freehold.
A WARNING FROM THE PREMIER (Per Press Association.) DUNEDIN, March 10. At Lawrence to-night the Premier, referring to the question of leasehold versus freehold, issued a note of warning to those aiding and abetting and recommending the abolition of the leasehold syslem. It was the leasehold syslem, he said, that had helped to make New Zealand prosperous and given thousands of poor men a chance to go on the land. (Applause). To say that no leases should be granted, which was practically what had been advocated., meant the repeal of the Lands for Settlement, Act. He knew of one estate in Otugo which was cut up privately and the land was now going hack to the large holders The same thing would happen elsewhere il the treehold were grunted.
