Volunteer News.
The Taranaki Guards held their first parade of the new volunteer .vear last evening, at which there was a strong musler. Alter the parade the annual cling of the company was behl. The balance-sheet was read, showing the company to be in a very sound financial position,and the following committees were appointed for the current year : —General committee, Capta'fli Cook, Lieutenants Messenger, Mills, Sergeants While, Boon and Beadle, 1 rivates Chilcott, Frank Grilliths and Blanchurd. Shooting committee.— Lieutenant Messenger, Sergeants Short, Beadle, and Oliver, Corporal llarlnell, Privates Chilcott, and P. G. Mc.Ewen. Sergeant While was re-elected secretary and voted a sum of £7 7s for last year's services. A vote of thanks was passed to the retiring auditor, Private Hopkins, and Lieutenant Mills and Private Burnside were elected for the coming year. Captain Cook stated that be would be obliged to band in his lesignation as captain for private \v,\"OU3. Aftut' requesting the cuptain to' reconsider the matter the ...)inpany accepted his resignation with regret. The members felt Hint they were losing a good and capable officer. A vote of thanks lo the chairman brought the meeling lo a close.
