Sir,—'The object of my let tt* *as to show how utterly ineffective ilr Dcakin's trifling proposals would I e as a means of encouraging immigration to Australia. Your (/orrcsnoiident has not denied this, but lie tries to be funny by saying that Australia may not have regretted my loss. I did not say they regretted tho Joss of any particular one, but tb4 subject under discussion is lliat Australia is. regretting the loss of n lot, which is made up of unitsi I accept the accusation of belonging to tHe labour party, becanse afto- a long study of these matters I have arrived at the conclusion that there are but three classes of people—workers, beggars, and thieves. Wliert a country makes laws to crush the first and shelter the last two, that country is bound to 6ufTer from want of immigration, and the only curv lies bast-: It must be obvious tliat to tinkei 1 with non-essentiala is Issa.—l dm, etc., j AUSTRALIAN, '
