Swimming Sports.
Moist and uncomfortable weather was experienced yesterday for the second sports meeting- under 'he auspices of the New Plymouth Swimming Club. There was, under circumstances, a really good attendance of the public, and well competed events in some cases served to make tho onlookers forget Hie discomforts of the rain, which varied from a drizzle lo a smart shower. The management was scarcely as oiompt as it might, have been, but the adverse conditions under which the sports were conducted in part accounted for Ibis. The handicapping was somewhat at sv-a, Ihe scratch men in the short ilis-, tauce events being penalised out of all chance of pulling up on the rest. Results were :- Maiden Race, 00yds—llurdgreuves 1, Tansey 2. 33 Yards Handicap.-First l.nut • Seabright (4sec) 1, llardgreaves (5 sec) 2. Second heat : Hlack 'ssec) 1, Slohr (2sec) 2. Pinal : Seabright' 1, llardgreaves 2. Springboard Dive—Stohr 1. 100 Yards Handicap-lllukev (9 sec) 1, llardgreaves (Wsec) 2, Hunter (scr) 3. Ladies' Hace, 33 yards—Miss Handle 1, Hiss Garner 2. Nine competed, und the race evoked considerable interest, the leading competitors being heartily applauded. Cigar and pmbrella Hgce—Sloifr 1. 00 Yards (Hub Handicap.—T'ansev (I2sec) V, Hodge (lOsec) 2, 440 Yards Handicap—lliinK-r (scr) 1. Only competitor to finish, (wo other sHurters retiring. High Dive-Moore 23 points 1, llreimnn 10 points 2, McMillan .11 points. !1, Six fiinipcicd. (11l Yards Jlnudicap-Seahrigiit (7 sec) 1, Black (Bsec) 2.
