Christmas Carnival.

The Carnival Executive met last evening in the Council Chambers. Present—Messrs Carter, Ambury, Dockrill, Eraser, Tribe, Wilson, Bauchope. Morey. Oooducre, C E, Bellringer. Mr C. Carter was voted to the chair. Mr Dockrill, for the lire demonstration connnitiee, reported against tin.- advisabilily oi holding such a demonstration, as the New Zealand compel it ions will be held this year, and the men would lind difficulty in obtaining it-use of absence on both occasions. This recommendation was in accordance with the desires of the local lire brigade. The Chairman moved, and Mr Tribe seconded, that it model Maori village be built in connection with the exhibition, where Maori life might be ivpilied. This would lit in with the already proposed arrangement for Maori dancing. .Messrs Dockrill and Eraser thought this would be an undeniable "draw," but an expensi\e one. Mr Morey said thai of course this would be a side-show, with admission charges separate from the exhibition. Tiie Chairman said the cost would be about £2OO. Mr Tribe said the village could be retained and placed in the Recreation Grounds. Mr F. T. Bellringer thought £2OO would soon be recouped. Rev. Belinetl. .Messrs W. 11. Skinner. T. \\. The meeting went into committee to consider the applications lor the secretaryship, several of the applicants e*)ivssing a wish to have their letters treated us confidential. There were thirteen applicants. The linal ballot resulted in Mr ||. A. Lennoii being appointed ul a salary of £7o per annum and a bonus contingent on the success uf (he caiwival. The secretary must attend all meetings of the exhibition and executive committees, these committees having first claim on his services ns from his appointment, and from October Ist until the closing of the exhibition he shall devote the whole of his time lo the services of these committees ; afler the closing of the exhibition whatever time may be necessary lor the prompt, winding up of the affairs of the carnival.
