Lord Unnfuily anil party arrived by train shortly ailer lluvc o'clock and were accorded an enthusiastic rece])tion. 'lhe Mayor ami county Chairman welcomed and expressed regret at his Excellency's early departure from tlie colony. The Oovernor in reply said his return to the Motherland would be tinged with rcff'et at leaving the colony, which lie so much appreciated, It had fallen to his lot io witness many stirring iticidVnts in the colony, and he .would carry home pleasant recollections of t'he people's enthusiasm. Colonel I'iit paid a tribute to Lord Northland for his interest in the .Veterans' home movement, and also aytoku hopefully of the future of the W'.-st Coast, which was now being steadily oipened up. During his stayin Hokitika the Governor was the" guest of Mr Joseph Mnudle. Subsequently Lord Uanfuiiy drove to Kanieri, niKl returning to town again .wtnt north by train for Gievmouth.
