The ordinary monthly meeting of the above was held on Friday. Present : Crs. S. Forsyth (chairman), E. Maxwell, W. C. Dudley, H. H. lJi-rant, J. SU"ueiison, J. Kothery, M. Fleming, .1. Bui'gesr,. The clerk nolilicd election ot Mr A. Shaw, who tlien took his seat.

The Chairman explained that the gravel obtainable within a reasonable di.-itance was of inferior quality and'the work had been stopped, auid as there was no good gravel obtainable within a reasonable distance ho thought it would be better to terminate the contract.—Resolved that the contract be terminaltd. The Taranaki County Council wrote accepting the oiler of the Council to pay off indebteihiess by instalments, but hoping that the Council would be able to increase proposed instalments. After considering ti.e state of the Council's linank.es, which are limited to £IOOO overdraft until the 31st March, when the Council's borrowing power will be increased to £2OOO.

Cr. Fleming proposed that the proposal payment of £3CQ be increased to £4oo.—Seconded by Cr. Burgess. Cr. Maxwell moved an amendment, secoudol by Cr. The amendment, on being put, was lost, and the motion was then put and carried.
